We currently seeking a Full Time Housekeeper at our brand-new senior living community, Bayview Seniors Community, in White Rock, BC.
The Housekeeper is responsible for maintaining a clean, sanitary, and safe environment for residents, staff, and visitors in accordance with WorkSafeBC, BC Centre for Disease Control (BCCDC) guidelines, and long-term care licensing standards. This role supports resident dignity, comfort, and infection prevention.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Follows cleaning schedule (daily, weekly, monthly, etc.) as outlined for housekeeping department.
- Cleans assigned areas, furnishings, fixtures according to established housekeeping procedures.
- Cleans floors, dry mops, wet mops, sweeps, disinfects where and when necessary. Performs emergency housekeeping when accidents occur.
- Cleans movable and stationary furnishings and fixtures, dusts, spot cleans or washes, disinfects, when necessary, polishes where required, changes slip covers, scarves, doilies, etc. when soiled. Cleans ledges, shelves, vents, etc.
- Empties, cleans and relines waste baskets. Straightens or rearranges furniture as directed. Inspects furnishings for wear and defects and reports to supervisor.
- Cleans bathrooms (resident, private, public and staff). Cleans and disinfects all fixtures, floors and walls as directed. Washes windows and mirrors. Replenishes bathroom supplies.
- Spot cleans between washings, washes, disinfects when necessary. Walls and ceilings and ceiling fixtures are cleaned as scheduled.
- Cleans all horizontal surfaces daily or as required, removing dust, dirt or greasy film using disinfectants where necessary.
- Performs cleaning duties according to established procedures in resident rooms when resident has been discharged. Prepares room for new occupant.
- Removes garbage and disposes of same.
- Reports observations to supervisor concerning structural and equipment wear, defects and malfunctions.
- Attends in-service meetings.
- Adheres to policy and procedures including quality assurance, safety, and infection control.
- Washes, folds, irons and delivers laundry as required.
- Demonstrates personal attributes and communication skills that foster customer satisfaction at all times.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
Ability to follow written and oral instructions. Ability to perform general light duty work; ability to get along and communicate with residents and staff. Some understanding of chemicals and equipment used in cleaning.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIP
Reports to the Environmental Services or Housekeeping Supervisor
Probationary period is 3 months.
Working Conditions
- Must be able to deal with exposure to dust during performance of duties and work safely with cleaning compounds.
- Lifting alone, maximum of 40 lbs (5-25 lbs usual) as an essential job function. Lifting with assistance, maximum 160 lbs (100-120 lbs usual) as an essential job function.
- Pushing/pulling, using wheeled equipment such as carts, trolleys, maximum 100 lbs (20-50 lbs usual) as an essential job function.
- Stretching/reaching on a regular frequency throughout the shift, as a non-essential job function.
- Walking, with possibility some upstairs walking, up to 3 hours maximum (1-2 hours usual) as an essential job function.
- Standing for lengths of time, up to 3 hours maximum (1-2 hours usual) as an essential job function.
- Bending/stooping on a regular frequency throughout the shift, as an essential job function.
- Crouching/kneeling for short periods of time as a non-essential job function.
- Carries and transports objects of various sizes, to a maximum of 25 lbs (5-15 lbs usual) as an essential job function.
Responsibilities To Health and Safety
- Is aware of employees’ responsibilities and follows all health and safety policies and procedures as set out in departmental manuals.
- Works safely to reduce the risk of injury to self, co-workers and residents.
- Is alert to and promptly reports all actual or potentially hazardous situations to immediate supervisor. Does not operate or use faulty equipment.
- Wears personal protective equipment (or clothing) as required by task, M.S.D.S. or facility policy.
- Promptly reports personal injury to supervisor and seeks first aid as needed.
- Participates in fire safety demonstrations and fire drills and knows the facility fire and disaster plan.
Salary range : $21.00 to $ 24.00 / hour
